Gabapentin what does it feel like

I could not understand why I was feeling worse after surgery to fix my pain. I immediately stopped taking this and after 24 hours, I was back to myself and just had normal post operative pain that was easily controlled with pain medication. I shortly went off the pain medication as I was healing.

Please take this medication with caution and awareness! I still cannot believe how horrible this medication made me feel! I think if I had taken it much longer I might have been suicidal, the all over body pain was truly was that awful! If a Doc prescribed this medication, they should monitor their patient constantly of the many serious potential side effects!

Gabapentin saved my life. I know that almost everyone I know has had either ridiculously terrible side effects one of my closest friends says she is still not the same or amazing experiences for pain. I'm the latter and take it for migraines and as a backup med for epilepsy. It works pretty well, but there's another reason why I love this medication: I can't cry.

I used to be a wild mess of emotions. My emotions ruled my every waking moment and decision making, to the point that I'd cry over anything.

I cannot for the life of my physically cry. For someone that would cry every other day, this is a miracle. I feel like I can think logically and make decisions better and faster. Thank you Gabapentin! Would I recommend it to others? I'm not a doctor, so I can't say I would. I think it works for some people but the risk of having a "bad trip" is high. I was scared to take it but I was also extremely desperate.

I have incredible severe neuropathic pelvic pain. Gabapentin started badly - side effects when you first start taking it are a bit wild. I had really severe mood swings. I had some muscle shakes and tremors too. After a couple of days though it settled down and for the first time in over a year I have ZERO pain! I even had a little cry with relief. I occasionally have stabbing pain in my neck shooting down my shoulders and arms, at times so bad it gets intolerable, and no otc medicine helps, no matter how much I took or what combination, i finally had enough and went to my dr, she said it sounded like nerve pain and prescribed gabapentin, I also have severe arthritis pain in both knees, ankles, hands, neck and shoulders, i initially took gabapentin with prednisone, within a few days the nerve pain was much improved and by the time I completed the 5 day prednisone prescription, the nerve pain was pretty much gone, however it did nothing for my arthritis pain, it did make me sleepy and I had occasional bouts of dizziness here and there, some gas and bloating as well, I'm thankful the stabbing, shooting pain is pretty much gone but I wish it would help with the arthritis, the shoulder pain is becoming unbearable.

I call this drug my miracle drug, I only take mg nightly and I haven't had a migraine since. I really can't say enough good things about this, as it has dramatically improved my quality of life. I went from having two hemiplegic migraines per week to not having one since before I was prescribed in late January 1.

Take it at nighttime if you can, it makes me very sleepy and calm but that effect lessens over time. Overall, I thank the universe every day for giving me access to this medication so that I can actually live my life again.

Note: I also take remeron and zoloft, and there haven't been any noticeable interactions between either. This is a terrible drug. The problem is that unless all of your specialists communicate about the other drugs you are taking you can develop some serious side effects. I had an infusion so that I was so nauseated I thought no problem I will skip my dose and start again in the morning.

Went into withdrawl over night so I went back into my dose that was mg three times a day!!!!!!. Now I have swung the other way and am experiencing numbness in my hands and feet , I can't sleep, can't rest, just want to perhaps stop all together but now I will have to wean off. I will never go on this drug again. Don't take this medication with Benedryl or any other antihistimines. I regret not researching this drug when I went on it at mg at bedtime.

Wish those days were back. I'm aggitated and not eating, oh my before you go on this medication research it and discuss the drug with your DR. It treated my symptoms very effectively, but after a month I went into a deep depression and my anxiety is so bad I can barely leave the house. It took years to get out of my depression. It also triggered my eating disorder and I gained ten pounds while taking it.

I can barely function. Absolutely amazing I was on the edge of killing myself as no other drugs helped with the chronic and debilitating pain it needs to be increased ever few months but thank god for gabba! I have carpal tunnel and was given this drug. I would rather deal with the pain than feel like I do. I feel as if I'm coming down with the flu and can't get out of bed or stay awake. My head is spinning and the pain in my arms never went away so it never helped me.

Tried Gabapentin for generalized anxiety disorder. In , it was the 10th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States with a total of 64 million prescriptions dispensed that year, up from 39 million prescriptions in , according to the report.

On top of that, recent news reports suggest the drug has the potential for abuse and misuse. Gabapentin may also help enhance the euphoria caused by opioids.

According to Patel and Saxon, gabapentin is usually well-tolerated when taken as directed. Still, it's important to be aware of these gabapentin side effects. The most common gabapentin side effect is drowsiness, says Saxon.

That sleepy feeling may be more pronounced when you first start taking gabapentin and then slowly goes away as your body adjusts to the medication, according to the Mayo Clinic. Talk with your doctor about this symptom before you stop taking the drug.

Just don't stop cold-turkey—you'll likely have to taper off of the medicine, since suddenly stopping gabapentin can make you feel worse, says Patel. Balance problems may also be a side effect of taking gabapentin, along with uncoordinated movement, says Patel. Again, tell your doctor, who may want to adjust your dose or discuss other pain relief options. Definitely do not mix gabapentin with opioids without consulting with your doctor first. Tell your doctor if you're using herbal drugs, too, like ginkgo biloba, which can lessen then effects of gabapentin.
